Job Title & Details Level A Step 6 (PhD) from $97,621 to $104,622 plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading – Full‑time, 2‑Year FTC Overview Integrative insect biology research at the interface of nutrition, immunity, infection biology, and physiological adaptation in insects under climate change. Role Summary Postdoctoral Fellow within the School of Natural Sciences, Macquarie University. Lead laboratory and field experiments, contribute to method development, support the supervision and training of research students, and publish high‑quality research findings. Key Responsibilities Develop scientific methods: new assays or models for measuring immunity, metabolic traits, pathogen load, or stress tolerance Collect data: curated datasets, protocols, analytical pipelines, and reproducible workflows Prepare scientific publications and pre‑prints Contribute to grant and funding applications, including input into fellowship and project proposals Supervise and mentor MRes, PhD students, and research assistants Collaborate across interdisciplinary projects, industry links, and outreach or stakeholder activities Build a competent team: training workshops, lab setup, and skill transfer within the group Essential Qualifications & Experience PhD in entomology, ecology, immunology, or a related discipline Experience in experimental insect biology, including nutrition, immunity, host–pathogen interactions, stress physiology, or climate‑related work Proven ability to conduct original experimental research with impactful outputs Demonstrated ability to supervise research students and foster a nurturing research environment Strong quantitative skills, including statistical modelling and data analysis in R Independent funding experience (fellowships, grants) or contributions to successful grants Excellent oral and written communication and analytical thinking skills Full, unrestricted Australian work rights Desirable Qualifications & Experience Experience conducting climate‑related experiments Insect rearing and experimental systems in laboratory and/or field settings Experience with scientific communication and outreach to academic or non‑academic audiences Evidence of mentoring or leadership in research teams Strong capacity for independent research and collaboration within interdisciplinary environments About Macquarie University The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a young, dynamic faculty driven by discovery.
