Contract Software Engineer – TypeScript, GCP – Initial 6 Month Contract (Possible extensions) Melbourne – Richmond (1 day onsite) – $600–$900 per day SaaS | Greenfield Build We’re partnering with an early‑stage SaaS startup backed by experienced founders who are looking at expanding the team ahead of their product launch next year. You’ll be joining a small team of 3 Software Engineers and will play a pivotal role in building their MVP, influencing architectural decisions, and shaping the long‑term direction of the product and engineering culture. This is a hands‑on role suited to engineers who thrive in fast‑moving startup environments, enjoy turning ambiguity into clarity, and want ownership over technical decisions. The Role As a Software Engineer, you’ll design, build, and operate the core product end‑to‑end across front‑end, back‑end and cloud. The initial architecture is in place, and the broader tech stack will be defined in the new year, so you’ll help validate and shape foundational decisions. The platform will integrate payment flows using Airwallex, so experience with payment integrations is essential. You’ll work closely with the founders and external delivery partners while taking ownership of the internal codebase. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and deliver the MVP from the ground up. Own the codebase and ensure systems are scalable, secure, and production‑ready. Help define the future tech stack, anticipated to include React, TypeScript, .Net and GCP. Build core features hands‑on while coordinating with integration and delivery partners. Ensure stability ahead of pilot launch and iterate quickly based on user feedback. Contribute to establishing engineering culture, standards, and delivery processes. Key Skills & Experience Proven experience building and shipping production systems end‑to‑end in small teams/startups. Strong commercial experience with TypeScript and ideally React. Experience integrating payment systems (Airwallex or equivalent). Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with founders and stakeholders. Nice to Have Experience in fintech, or regulated environments. Prior founding engineer / early‑stage startup experience. Exposure to .NET is beneficial (but not required).
