As the largest employer in the region, MLHD supports over 5,000 healthcare staff across 33 hospitals and 12 primary health care centres. What you'll be doing The Bariatric / Upper GI Fellow is a newly qualified surgeon who will enhance their skills in elective and emergency surgery, and outpatient surgical consultations. The fellowship, endorsed by Australian & New Zealand Metabolic Obesity Surgical Society (ANZMOSS), is a recognized post for specialist training in all aspects of metabolic/bariatric surgical care. Provide bariatric surgery and perioperative care. Participate in the on‑call roster. Assist with the educational role of the department, including teaching medical students and other staff. Deliver clinical care to patients and attend bariatric outpatient clinics (MOS Clinic). Collaborate with allied health services to support patient assessment and management. Work with Specialist Surgeons and Registrars at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for a 12‑month period, with potential support at other LHD sites. Where you'll be working Wagga Wagga Base Hospital provides a 24/7 Emergency Department, critical care, medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric, and rehabilitation care. It hosts critical care, cardiac, and allied health services, including dental, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sexual health, and violence prevention. Qualifications and Experience Evidence of a Medical qualification registrable with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Letter of support from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons supporting Fellowship placement in General Surgery and indicating completion of fellowship training and Part II exam. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to General Surgery. Willingness to commit to an equitable hospital on‑call roster for Surgery. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff. Willingness to teach medical students and other staff, with a commitment to clinical quality improvement, peer review, equal employment opportunity, and Occupational Health & Safety. Significant experience relevant to General Surgery and competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.
