Join our team as an OO4 Ranger and play a key role in protecting Queensland’s marine-based National Parks. Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for an OO4 Ranger to join the team on a Permanent basis. As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks – Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park. Marine Park Rangers help care for and protect marine parks on both land and sea. They carry out a range of activities as part of the Reef Joint Field Management Program, including checking the health of the environment, talking with the public, doing on‑water compliance patrols, and maintaining facilities such as camping areas and toilets. Marine Park Rangers also work closely with Traditional Owners to respect and maintain cultural values. Our Ranger vacancies offer an exciting opportunity to work in some of the most stunning marine and island protected areas of the Northern Great Barrier Reef. As a Ranger, you'll be hands‑on in maintaining park infrastructure and walking tracks, helping to protect wildlife and natural habitats, and ensuring park rules are followed. You'll spend a lot of time out on the water aboard vessels, exploring remote locations, and working closely with other agencies on marine zoning, park management, and species protection. This role is perfect for someone who’s passionate about the ocean, enjoys adventure, and wants to make a real difference in conservation and environmental education. Role Focus Carry out diverse park management tasks including infrastructure maintenance, fire, weed and pest control, cultural/natural resource management, and plant operation. Support planning and implementation of annual work programs, managing resources within budget constraints. Perform compliance and enforcement duties, supported investigations, and engage with stakeholders and the public. Participate in emergency response, supervise staff and volunteers, handle admin tasks, and promote inclusive practices for First Nations peoples. To Be Considered You Must Hold The Following Qualifications an automatic/unrestricted manual driver's licence Qualifications There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, formal qualifications or capability to acquire such qualifications as specified below would be highly regarded: Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal or higher. Rescue diver or higher. Elements of Shipboard Safety. Senior First Aid. Advanced Resuscitation. Statement of attainment in Government Investigations. Unrestricted Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate. Chainsaw operator's accreditation (Level 1 or higher). Wildfire Suppression and Prescribed Burning Crew Leader or higher. MR or HR vehicle licence. Operation of specialized equipment such as side by side, tractor, forklift, positrack and mini excavator.
