The Opportunity Are you an inspiring leader who thrives in a fast-paced, hands‑on environment? We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead our last‑mile transport operations at our Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) facility. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will guide the transport team through daily performance while shaping future success through strong planning, leadership and operational excellence. This role is critical in ensuring on‑time performance, cost efficiency, customer satisfaction, team capability, and compliance across all transport activities. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all aspects of daily transport operations to meet production and customer service standards. Drive short, medium, and long‑term operational planning, including efficient labour scheduling to meet demand and deliver on‑time performance. Manage and optimise financial performance, ensuring adherence to budget targets. Deliver against KPIs across labour, waste, quality, efficiency and customer outcomes. Maintain strong working relationships with airline customers and ensure all service requirements and specifications are met. Provide effective people leadership, including recruitment, performance management, training, communication and policy compliance. Ensure full compliance with HACCP, airport authority standards, quality assurance, safety, security and all regulatory requirements. Lead lean, continuous improvement and process optimisation initiatives to support OPEX targets. Support customer, operational and compliance audits by driving actions and continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with fatigue management and safe rostering practices. About You Proven experience as a Transport Leader within aviation, inflight catering, manufacturing or logistics. Strong background working in highly regulated, compliance‑driven environments. Leadership experience in a customer‑focused, unionised workforce. Financial acumen including budgeting and P&L management. Knowledge of lean practices, Six Sigma and/or continuous improvement (preferred). A valid driver’s licence (MR or HR licence highly regarded). Eligibility to obtain airside clearance in Australia. Strong systems literacy and planning/technology capability. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Logistics or similar (preferred). Excellent communication, problem‑solving, influencing and organisational skills. Ability to lead, motivate and develop teams, operate under pressure and think strategically. Why Join Gate Gourmet?
