Permanent 0.5 FTE Staff Specialist – Forensic Medical Unit – Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals | APPLY VIA ECREDENTIAL ONLY Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). The position will be located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals within the Department of Forensic Medical Unit. The Forensic Medical Unit (FMU) provides clinical forensic services to patients within Western Sydney Local Health District, serving a population of over 1 million people in a geographical area ranging from Auburn Hospital to Mount Druitt Hospital. It provides forensic assessments for adolescent and adult victims of sexual assault, adult victims of domestic violence, as well as other Expert Opinions as requested by various entities. Trauma informed care is provided as part of an integrated response with members of the Integrated Violence Prevention and Response Service (IVPRS). The FMU works closely with various entities providing support for victims of interpersonal violence, including NSW Police Force and the Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The FMU is involved in the advancement of clinical forensic medicine in NSW through research and innovation, as well as through networking with forensic services across NSW and interstate. Education is provided to various pre‑ and post‑graduate medical, nursing and allied health staff, as well as non‑medical organisations. Successful applicants will provide forensic medical examinations and assessments for adolescent and adult victims of sexual assault, as well as injury documentation for victims of domestic and other forms of violence across Western Sydney Local Health Districts. They will provide Expert Opinions for these cases, and others as required, as well as providing peer review of opinions of other examiners. They will attend Court as an Expert Witness on receipt of a valid subpoena. The successful candidate will also provide on‑call cover for the Forensic Medical Unit service as rostered. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The advertised position is for 0.5 FTE Staff Specialist position. Unless already obtained, it will be expected that the successful candidate/s will have started working towards obtaining relevant postgraduate qualifications within the first 12‑month period following employment. Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 3 months are eligible to apply. Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Selection Criteria Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience: 1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty (applicable to the provision of clinical forensic medical services). 2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty: Having post‑graduate qualifications in forensic medicine, or willingness to obtain such qualifications. Possessing clinical experience in the field of forensic medicine (adult and/or paediatric sexual assault, domestic violence assessments, clinical child protection service provision, forensic toxicology, etc.) is preferred. Experience in other relevant areas will be considered e.g. emergency medicine, general practice, drug health, etc. 3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including: Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi‑disciplinary health care team. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships. Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality. 4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. 5. Possess a NSW driver’s licence and an appropriate means of transport to attend for forensic examinations within the timeframe specified by NSW Health and be in possession of a valid Working with Children Check, as issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
