The Yallourn North Hotel is a classic country pub and community hub — the place "Where the locals meet." As we continue to grow our kitchen offering, we're looking for an experienced, hands‑on Chef to join our team and help shape the future of our menu and food service. About the Role We're seeking a talented and motivated Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, develop quality pub‑style meals, and maintain high standards of food presentation and hygiene. The ideal candidate will be creative, organised, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment while leading a small team. Key Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and cook a range of menu items to consistently high standards. Design and update menus with a focus on seasonal ingredients, customer favourites, and profitability. Manage stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships to minimise waste and maintain cost targets. Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are met (in line with council and Victorian standards). Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff. Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and efficiency within the kitchen. Collaborate with management on specials, events, and promotional menus. Monitor portion control and presentation standards. Work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required. Skills & Experience Proven experience as a Chef, Sous Chef, or Head Cook in a pub, bistro, or restaurant environment. Minimum of 1‑2 years of chef experience required. Strong knowledge of Australian pub cuisine and contemporary food trends. Excellent kitchen management and leadership skills. Understanding of food cost control and menu engineering. Current Food Safety Supervisor certificate (or willingness to obtain). Ability to work independently and as part of a small, friendly team. Passion for local produce and community hospitality. Must have Australian work rights for this position. What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience.
