Shunter (Fleet) Operator

In this role, you'll: Work in a dynamic environment where you’ll focus on directing train movements safely and efficiently within our Tempe Maintenance Centre. You’ll be receiving, marshalling and dispatching rolling stock. You’ll marshal trains within the centre for inspection, maintenance, repairs, and the removal of carriages. Working closely with the Operations Planner and signalling staff you’ll anticipate operational needs and be able to adapt to changing priorities. You’ll work to schedules and rosters to accept and dispatch trains, communicate with signalling staff, and generally work toward all train movements being completed in a safety, practical, and efficient way. This is an on-site permanent, full-time role based out of the Tempe Maintenance Centre. This role will require you to undertake shiftwork on a 24/7 rotating roster, 365 days a year, therefore flexibility is key. About you You will be qualified in shunting to appropriate standards and ideally you will have an in-depth understanding of rail operations, network rules and shunting and maintenance centre procedures, enabling you to direct train placement with safety and effectiveness with drivers, signalling staff, and Managers. You’re recognised as a clear communicator with strong planning and problem‑solving abilities. This will help you to anticipate operational needs and address challenges as they arise. You bring a clear, professional approach when interacting with others and this will see you excel in communicating clearly over radio, enabling seamless coordination with train crews and signalling staff. Your team‑oriented, pro‑active and able to work well under pressure in a dynamic and fast‑moving environment. You uphold high ethical standards and promote a respectful working environment, high standards of safety and integrity.
