Overview This is a permanent, full‑time position commencing Term 1, 2026. Location and Community Our 100‑year‑old school is located on the bank of the Avon River in Northam. With over 650 students, we are the largest school in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. Northam is a picturesque town with many cultural and heritage attractions, including the Avon River, hot air ballooning, historic buildings and the pedestrian suspension bridge, the longest of its kind in Australia. Role The Advisory teacher will work with students each day as their Advisory teacher. Students are expected to become respectful, caring and productive members of the Advisory group. Teach, inspire, bond, organise and manage learning. Negotiate student learning plans and convene meetings with students, parents and mentors. Help students develop extended projects and prepare for exhibitions. Discover and apply a philosophy of personalised learning in a community of learners, supporting each student’s interests, talents and cultural identity. Critically analyse student performance data and incorporate findings into action plans to achieve meaningful outcomes. Professional Benefits Temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 000. Attractive Country Teaching Program Allowance of $8 020 per year. 12 % employer contributions to superannuation. 12 weeks’ vacation leave (school holidays). More than 20 days of other leave, including sick leave and carers’ leave. Subsidised accommodation where applicable. Free relocation. Teachers and school administrators employed at Northam Senior High School in 2026 are eligible to receive the temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 000 per annum, paid in two parts. Eligible staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to receive the second payment. Eligibility Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration. Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Apply for a WA Working with Children Check before starting. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before starting.
