Grownuts is a dynamic nursery business producing pistachio and walnut trees. Located in Leeton NSW we are pride ourselves for quality and strength of our trees. Due to increasing demand of our trees, we are looking for a Nursery Assistant to assist with our next growth phase of the business. The Nursery Assistant will work closely and report to the Nursery Manager and assist with the growth and development of the Nursery. The position is full-time and is based in Leeton NSW. Essential Job Functions and Primary Responsibilities Cultivating trees and assisting in the planting out of new stock. Assisting with the propagation of new trees. Assessing the need for and applying chemical applications for the control of disease and pests. Assisting with soil testing and monitoring tree development for growth. Carrying out scheduled watering and using controlled automatic water systems, considering factors in irrigation scheduling, the trees’ watering requirements and the soil’s water holding capacity. Grading trees, spacing and moving trees. Transplanting and weeding. Basic tree maintenance including pruning. Supervision of harvesting to ensure trees are not damaged in the process. Address any damage caused to ensure trees remain productive. Disease and pest control as per the applicable environmental standards. Maintaining a high level of hygiene throughout the orchard and production facilities. Acting as the team leader for the day-to-day activities in the orchard providing overall supervision to a team of unskilled workers. Qualifications and Requirements Qualifications in a relevant area. A minimum of 2 years’ recent relevant experience working in horticulture production or agriculture. Ability to work independently and without supervision. Ability to work effectively as part of team and provide leadership to a small team. Ability to problem solve and have critical thinking skills. Good oral communication skills.
