Role Overview The City of Newcastle (CN) has an exciting career opportunity for a Traineeship in Work Health and Safety as part of our Safety and Wellbeing Team. This opportunity is a 2-year fixed-term contract within our People and Culture service unit. Responsibilities Support Safety & Wellbeing Business Partners across a range of activities, including reviewing WHS documents, assisting with incident investigations and audits, and contributing to safety initiatives and projects. Maintain the WHS Management System, Incident Management System, and Safety and Wellbeing Intranet Pages and other administrative functions. Assist Recovery & Care Coordinator and Return to Work Coordinator supporting injured workers following injury, including regular contact with relevant parties, supporting Managers and Supervisors identifying suitable duties and developing Return to Work Plans. Participate in a structured training program designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to prepare for entry-level employment in Safety and Wellbeing. Qualifications Entry‑level traineeship with no prior WHS qualifications required; trainees will gain a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety during the program. Benefits 35‑hour working week with flexible/hybrid work arrangements and optional 9‑day fortnight. 4 weeks of annual leave, 3 weeks of personal leave plus 2 additional paid public holidays. 17.5% annual leave loading.
