Come work with us Balgownie Estate are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Junior Sous Chef to join our team. The Junior Sous Chef will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef in managing our modern kitchen and ensuring the quality of food preparation and presentation. The ideal candidate should have a passion for cooking, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Responsibilities Assist the Head Chef in managing the kitchen and ensuring the quality of food preparation and presentation Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines Supervise and train kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, and sanitation practices Ensure that all food items are stored, handled, and prepared safely and hygienically Maintain inventory levels and order supplies as needed Assist in menu planning and development Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef Qualifications Minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery – or similar Minimum of 2 years of Chef De Partie experience in a professional kitchen Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and sanitation practices Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Excellent organisational and time management skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays Have a reliable car to drive to and from Yarra Glen (Eastern Suburbs) What We Will Offer You Career Progression – This is a long‑term career opportunity with ongoing mentorship and supportive management Fantastic staff discounts on wine, food, accommodation, and spa treatments Excellent workplace wellbeing & recognition program Balgownie Estate is a 4.5‑star estate boasting 70 hotel rooms, a day spa and cellar door, located 1 hour from Melbourne CBD in the beautiful Yarra Valley wine region.
