Cultural strength, awareness, and respect Mutual Community Trust Transparency and Accountability Supporting Social and Cultural wellbeing Leading with strength and independence ABOUT BUNDIYARRA REGIONAL ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY KINSHIP STAY – BRACKS The Bundiyarra Kinship Stay will address the need for additional accommodation in Geraldton by providing pay-per-stay accommodation for Aboriginal people who visit Geraldton to access services, or participate in business, educational, cultural or family activities. They are designed to be safe, culturally appropriate and affordable, and have the capability to connect guests to local services. It will be a welcoming place that will be drug and alcohol free. Bundiyarra Regional Aboriginal Community Kinship Stay - BRACKS will: Provide Aboriginal people and families with safe, culturally appropriate, and affordable short-term accommodation options Help improve the wellbeing of Aboriginal people by enabling family groups to remain together while travelling; as well as facilitating access to essential services and supports, and training and education opportunities. Help prevent potential rough sleeping and overcrowding Boost job creation, Aboriginal employment opportunities and economic activity. Bundiyarra has been awarded the BRACKS Management Tender for 4 years and have partnered with MercyCare who are currently managing the Broome, Derby and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Aboriginal Short Stays. MercyCare will provide learnt experience, guidance, mentorship and capacity building to the GASSA team and Bundiyarra to ensure excellence in service delivery, contract management, capacity building of the Corporation and business mentorship to guide Bundiyarra on this journey of growth. Bundiyarra will anchor the facility in local identity, governance, and cultural leadership. We will ensure the service reflects availability to surrounding communities and language groups and acknowledge mobility across country for the need for culturally safe spaces beyond city services. The service will embody collective care, kinship, and shared responsibility. We will ensure visibility and prioritisation of cultural safety in service delivery. Our vision for managing this service on behalf of the communities in our region is that the BRACKS will be a place that evokes healing, unity, and cultural belonging. Bundiyarra will ensure that the BRACKS is a culturally safe, trauma-informed space where Aboriginal people and families can rest, reconnect, and restore wellbeing. Grounded in kinship, Country, and community the facility supports short term transitions with dignity, respect, and cultural integrity. It is a place of healing, belonging, and strength. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Comply with Australian/New Zealand Food Safety Standards, legislation and policies governing practice Assume appropriate level of responsibility towards the roster and punctuality to work commitments Attending in-service education and meetings where appropriate and demonstrate a keen interest in and attendance at professional development sessions. Attending mandatory training as required by the position Treat all residents and staff with respect and dignity Operational Duties Keep all produce stored appropriately and at the correct temperature Produce attractive and nutritious meals to meet Organisation standards Assist in the development and regular review of the menus Maintain order in food preparation areas Ensure kitchen is kept safe and clean Have a thorough knowledge of all menu items regarding ingredients, cooking techniques and presentation. Sound knowledge of portion control and checks on wastage levels. Ensure rotation, maintenance and security of stock Maintain effective communication with guests and administration staff Respond positively to individual dietary needs Respond promptly to resident’s requests/complaints Effective Team Member Participates as a positive and reliable team member promoting and contributing to a supporting team environment. Participates in, contributes to, and implements quality improvement frameworks, goals and principles. Proactively and positively participates in performance development and review activities. Maintains confidentiality of all information in accordance with Bundiyarra’s Confidentiality policy. Understands and complies with all organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Undertakes additional business duties as requested by the Accommodation Manager and Business Support Officer. Work Health and Safety Models and complies with WHS responsibilities, including policies, operating procedures and instructions. Reports all risks, hazards, incidents, near misses and accidents as per the correct procedure and acts to remove hazards where possible. SELECTION CRITERIA Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Experience in a commercial cooking environment and/or aged care/hotel setting Knowledge of dietary nutrition for the Aboriginal people Skills, Attributes and Competencies A commitment to building the attitudes, knowledge and skills to work in cross-cultural situations competently. A commitment to person centered practice in undertaking work and willingness to ongoing learning and development in adopting the approach Able to cook wholesome, well-presented meals according to menu Ability to manage bulk ordering, purchasing and stock control of food Demonstrated effective organisational and time management skills Commitment to quality improvement programs.
