There will be a generous handover with the incumbent. You will need strong accounting literacy, clear judgement, and the confidence to keep things organised. If you enjoy making sure the details line up and the MD feels supported, this will feel like the right fit for you. The Role The finance manager is retiring after fourteen years of consistent, careful work. You will receive a full, several-week handover, and she will remain available for questions and backup. This is a smooth transition, not a rebuild. You manage the function end to end: bank movements, journals, supplier invoices, rebill credits, customer credit checks, cash flow reporting, and bank reconciliations. You prepare monthly and yearly packs so the accountant receives clean, reliable data. You oversee statements, supplier reconciliations, credit insurance reporting, fuel and toll accounts, loans, GL upkeep, and capital entries. Costar runs jobs and stock. It is practical rather than polished. Payroll is calculated in Excel and processed in MYOB. You keep both steady. New starters, weekly payroll, super, PAYG, payroll tax, and reconciliation into Costar. The work is hands‑on, and accuracy matters. You will also support key administration tasks, including incident reporting, Workcover, new credit forms, new employee paperwork, first aid supplies, vehicle insurance, and general office support. You work alongside a branch manager and a sales administration assistant, with an external bookkeeper available for holiday cover and extra support. The accounting environment is unsealed and relies on discipline. This suits someone steady, organised, and comfortable guiding a function while the business prepares for its next phase of modernisation. About You You keep the day-to-day tight and controlled, and you have the drive to refine systems when it supports the broader business. You can run a bank rec without fuss, handle a credit query with patience, and still keep an eye on cash flow pressure. You will need: Solid experience in SME bookkeeping or accounting Strong payroll capability (Excel + MYOB) Comfort working onsite in a practical, hands-on environment Nice to haves Certificate IV or Diploma in Accounting BAS experience You work well with operators who are driving the big picture, direct, and prefer clarity over complexity. You support current systems, keep order, and build trust before making improvements. When the time is right, you will help shape a cleaner accounting layer to sit alongside Costar.
