Student Counsellor

We are seeking a suitably experienced Student Counsellor to join our College Counselling and Pastoral Care team at our Officer Campus on a full-time, fixed-term contract commencing 27 January 2026 until 27 January 2027. This position plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of students across the College. The Student Counsellor will provide individual and group counselling, coordinate support plans, and collaborate with staff and external agencies to ensure the safety, inclusion, and overall wellbeing of all students. The days and hours of work are full-time, Monday to Friday, during school terms. Key Responsibilities Provide individual and group counselling to students, addressing a range of personal, emotional, and social issues that may impact learning or wellbeing. Conduct wellbeing assessments and implement case management or support plans tailored to individual student needs. Undertake risk assessments and initiate appropriate responses, supports and referrals in line with College procedures. Work closely with the Director of Counselling and Pastoral Care, teachers, and House/Wellbeing Leaders to identify and support at‑risk students. Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to coordinate comprehensive wellbeing support. Contribute to College-wide wellbeing, pastoral care, and personal development programmes that promote resilience, inclusion, and student engagement. Support staff in understanding wellbeing needs and strategies to foster a positive learning environment. Maintain accurate, confidential records and data in line with College policy and legal obligations. Actively uphold the College’s commitment to child safety, ensuring all work practices reflect care, respect, and inclusion for all students. The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Experience, Skills and Attributes Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline. Experience providing counselling or wellbeing support to young people, ideally in a school or youth setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively. Demonstrated experience in risk assessment and wellbeing planning. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including OneNote, Teams and Excel.
