In this role you will play a crucial part in ensuring the well‑being of our students by providing comprehensive counselling and support services. You will offer on‑demand counselling on personal and welfare matters, conduct group sessions as needed, and advocate for student welfare by raising awareness among school staff. Maintaining accurate and timely student case notes in the Student Management System and safeguarding confidentiality are also key responsibilities. Responsibilities Counsel students on demand about personal and welfare matters, identifying issues and developing responses. Provide basic welfare counselling for primary issues such as homesickness, low grades and stress to individuals or groups. Provide advanced welfare counselling for serious issues such as depression, mental illness and self‑harm. Refer students for significant health cases to appropriate outside agencies. Raise awareness among school staff of challenges facing the student population. Organise workshops for students and staff on welfare issues based on student needs. Establish and maintain links with external sources of information and support services. Keep accurate, timely student case notes updated in the Student Management System. Identify trends in student issues and report to Student Experience/Services teams to inform support practices. Requirements Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or equivalent, combined with relevant work experience and a demonstrated commitment to student safety and wellbeing (essential). Working with Children Check (essential). Awareness of and experience with cultural issues facing international students and the ability to communicate sensitively. Positive, supportive communication style and ability to apply people skills in a cross‑cultural context. Ability to plan, coordinate and manage activities with minimal supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems quickly. Availability outside standard business hours in exceptional circumstances such as critical incidents. Previous experience of volume caseloads within an educational capacity (desirable).
