Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a proactive and experienced Governance & Risk Coordinator to lead the development and delivery of strategic governance initiatives and enhance compliance and risk management frameworks across Council operations. What We Offer Competitive salary under the QLD Local Government Industry Award ( Stream A – Level 7 (OAP) - $100,000 to $109,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation. 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading) Monthly RDO (13 per year) Personal (Sick) Leave Subsidised Housing as part of your employment package What You’ll Do Develop and manage governance and risk frameworks across the organisation. Coordinate policy reviews, internal controls, and regulatory compliance activities Oversee the Audit & Risk Committee and internal audit function. Maintain strategic and operational risk registers. Provide advice on legal matters, privacy, fraud prevention, and public interest disclosures. Ensure Council meets all relevant legislative and reporting requirements. Lead governance training and build a culture of accountability and integrity. What We’re Looking For A confident, analytical, and solutions-focused professional Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills Proven ability to manage complex projects and competing deadlines. A commitment to upholding ethical practices and fostering a risk-aware culture. Knowledge of local government operations and related legislation is highly desirable. Qualifications Needed Mandatory: A current Police Clearance Tertiary qualifications in Business Administration, Law, or a related field. Experience in governance, compliance, or risk within local government or a similar sector. A current and unrestricted C class driver’s licence.
