Staff Specialist/Visiting Medical Officer – GP Anaesthetics – Lachlan Health Service As a Staff Specialist/Visiting Medical Officer – General Practitioner Anaesthetics in the Lachlan Health Service (Parkes and Forbes), you will join a dynamic team of expert clinicians who provide patient‑centred care. Your role will help drive quality and safe standards of care to patients throughout our Local Health District. Parkes and Forbes are 30 kms apart and sit about 100 kms from the nearest regional centre, Orange. Both towns are well connected to good solid infrastructure with 15,000 and 10,000 populations respectively. Both LGA Councils offer great websites to inspire and inform people who might wish to relocate or visit the towns. Lachlan Anaesthetic Services – Lachlan comprises two Procedural Hospitals providing Surgical and Obstetrics services, birthing approx. 300 women on average per annum. On‑call Anaesthetic services are also required. Famous for its historical connections with the bushranger Ben Hall and its beautiful parks and gardens, Forbes is an important and centrally located inland town in the central west of New South Wales. Forbes is located five hours from Sydney, just over an hour from the major rural city of Orange and under two hours’ drive from Dubbo, home to the famous Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Forbes Hospital is part of the Lachlan Health Service (which also includes nearby Parkes Hospital) and is a major district health service and procedural hospital. The facility has 27 beds and includes acute and sub‑acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation and palliative care services, two birthing rooms and two maternity rooms, one operating theatre, six renal dialysis chairs, two day treatment spaces, medical imaging and colocasted community and primary health services including outreach services to surrounding smaller towns. The facility has a modern emergency department with a large resuscitation bay and three beds. Famous for its annual Elvis Festival and the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope (‘the Dish’), the historic town of Parkes is located in the Central West less than five hours’ drive from Sydney with daily return flights and rail transport options. Cosmopolitan Orange is just over an hour away and in less that two hours you can be in Dubbo, home of the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Parkes Hospital is a brand new facility which was opened in 2015, making it a world‑class, modern and exciting facility in which to work. The facility has 28 inpatient beds which includes acute and sub‑acute, medical, surgical, rehabilitation and palliative care services. Services at Parkes Hospital include two birthing rooms, three maternity beds, two operating theatres, chemotherapy, medical imaging and collocated community and primary health services which includes outreach to surrounding towns. To apply, please address the following Selection Criteria Unconditional General and/or Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and/or Vocational Recognition as a General Practitioner. Significant GP Anaesthetics skills and experience with successful completion of JCCA (or equivalent) and current CPD in line with JCCA requirements. Minimum three (3) years post graduate clinical experience. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics or Rural Medicine an advantage. Sound knowledge of and commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, work health and safety, working within NSW Health Policy and current clinical practice guidelines. An understanding of patient centred care and demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team including demonstration of NSW Health CORE values in delivering safe and high quality care. Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing the range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department including Advanced Life Support and Trauma management. How do I apply for this role?
