About the Service The One Door Mental Health Family and Carers Mental Health Program (FCMHP) operates across 5 NSW Local Health Districts where staff from One Door and the Districts work in partnership, along with selected community managed organisations in a collaborative approach to provide a comprehensive range of support services and training and education to families and carers of people with a mental health challenges. This program operates as a self-organised team under the Recovery 2gether framework. Team members are collectively responsible and accountable for the services delivered to the people we support as well as team tasks to facilitate the effective operation of the program. About the role We are seeking a collaborative and resourceful Family and Carer Peer Practitioner for a fixed term, part time (3 days per week) opportunity in the Upper Hunter / Muswellbrook area. You will bring what you have learned from lived or living experience as a family member, carer or supporter of people with mental health challenges and/or alcohol and drug challenges to work with families and carers and walk alongside service users to improve mental health and wellbeing. This position covers a large regional area within the Hunter New England Local Health District. You’ll be based in the office on average one day per week, with the remaining two days focused on outreach support. This will involve travel to Muswellbrook and nearby Local Government Areas. Key responsibilities Practice in alignment with family-centred principles, relational recovery-oriented approaches, trauma-informed theories, intersectional and anti-racist/anti-oppressive ways of working. Provide 1:1 and group-based supports with a focus on advocacy, increasing wellbeing, socialisation and education. Consult with other team members, Support Hub, and the Recovery 2gether Coach regarding complex support issues. Formulate integrated care and support plans and provide relevant support designed to enhance relationships, family and carer wellbeing and satisfaction, where required. Engage with local mental health and alcohol and other drug services, and community-based organisations such as schools and neighbourhood houses, to identify family/carers and provide early support. Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by ODMH. Has a lived/living experience as a family member, carer or supporter of someone who is experiencing, or has experienced mental ill-health and/or substance use challenges. Has the willingness and ability to contribute this Lived Expertise in working towards collective organizational impact. Demonstrated understanding of family/carer Lived Experience approaches including peer work, co-design and co-production, and workforce development.
