About the role The Sub-Acute short stay ‘step up, step down’ Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) service is delivered in partnership with Mind, Victorian hospital networks and the health service supporting people with psychosocial disability transition from an acute hospital setting or to prevent hospital admissions by providing extra support to those entering directly from the community. PARC people can access Mind staff 24 hours a day whilst being supported to achieve their recovery goals, enhance relationships with families and carers, develop social and community connections, build confidence and increase capacity to live safely in the community. The service provides personalised one-to-one support, shared supports, workshops and group work based on client’s strengths and goals as identified in their individual recovery plan. The 3 different PARC models are: Youth (16-25 years), Adult (25-65 years) and Extended Adult (25-65 years but a longer stay of up to 6 months). The Adult and Youth Prevention and Recovery Care service (A&YPARC) is a residential program providing short term, intensive treatment to people aged between 16-65 years living with mental ill health. The service works within a recovery focused, clinical treatment framework in line with Mind’s Model of Recovery Oriented Practice and organisational values. We are seeking a self-motivated LGBTIQA+ Youth Peer Practitioner for a Part Time, Fixed Term (until Jan 2027) opportunity in the La Trobe region. This role will see you utilising your lived and living mental health challenges and/or alcohol and drug challenges to engage directly with clients through providing empathetic and positive support. will champion the voice of lived experience, advocate for human rights and provide an alternative to traditional mental health responses through the practice of mutuality. Key responsibilities Draw on the broader Lived Experience knowledge base as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community to inform your practice. Understand a person in a holistic way including where their experiences intersect with alcohol and drug, domestic violence, trauma, self-injury and suicide, culture etc. Work closely with the Relationships and Family Engagement worker to support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals. Assist service users with system navigation and linkages to community agencies or support systems that will assist them to address life impacts and barriers to full social, educational and employment participation, as required. Be grounded in the discipline of Lived Expertise, drawing from your own lived experience, informed by a commitment to social change, human rights, dignity and choice to shape the delivery of their work and that of Mind. What you’ll bring Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required. Lived/living experience and willingness to support clients through sharing your own learnings and recovery orientated practice. Identify as LGBTIQA+ young person. Ability to share learnings from your personal story in an appropriate and purposeful manner to support, empower, speak about the times of hopelessness and the importance of hope, and support the recovery of people. Experience, expertise and/or desire in working directly with LGBTIQA+ young people with mental health issues, and their families and carers. Spearhead co-design and coproduction in all aspects of the service including program evaluation, planning, decision making and service design.
