Remuneration: $57.30 - $69.84 per hour + super Employment Type: Temporary Part Time until March 2027 Position Classification: Clinical Psychologist Location: John Hunter Children’s Hospital Hours Per Week: 16 Requisition ID: REQ Applications Close: Sunday 11th January 2026 About the role: This maternity relief position provides a unique opportunity as a clinical psychologist to work within a multidisciplinary health team based at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital. You will work closely with the staff specialist, social worker, child life therapist, and clinical nurse consultants to support children with various immunological conditions. Most of the client contact is during outpatient appointments, but can include supporting young people completing a food exposure challenge as a day stay patient. You would provide a brief therapy block to some clients of the immunology service and may join the staff specialist for some outpatient appointments. Clients can be supported in person or by telehealth. The psychologist would have flexibility in working with clients at different paces – for example, a planned block of therapy appointments as well as responding to acute distress experienced by a child or family during a food exposure challenge. The psychologist works closely with the social worker to respond to the psychosocial challenges experienced by families, and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health team. They would have interest in balancing client related tasks with service development tasks, such as leading quality improvement projects. You would be supported in your role by the multidisciplinary team members of the immunology service, the JHCH psychology head of discipline, individual supervision with another skilled clinical psychologist working within the Children, Young People and Families network, as well as by participating in peer supervision with the JHCH psychologists. You will have access to the ongoing educational and professional development available through various platforms included HETI, grand rounds, professional development allowance, etc. About you: You will have experience in providing cognitive behaviour therapy to children, young people and their families to work on exposure to avoided situations, as well as family therapy skills to address familial anxiety that is impacting upon parenting approaches or restrictions of the child’s engagement with the community. Requirements: Current registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate clinical psychology qualification of no less than two years full time duration or recognised equivalent, displayed on the Psychology Board of Australia website.
