Flourish Australia are seeking an authentic, compassionate Peer Worker or Mental Health Worker to join our team in Queanbeyan. The parental leave relief position available is : Closed-term full-time role (76 hours per fortnight) from 17 December 2025 - 3 June 2026 Work in your local community in Queanbeyan Working a rotating roster Attractive hourly rate equivalent to $37.35‑$40.05 / hour + Super + Salary Packaging About the Opportunity As a Peer Worker or Mental Health Worker with Flourish Australia, you will support people accessing our services who have a lived experience of mental health issues to achieve their hopes and dreams. You will play an important part in assisting people to maintain wellness and realise their goals. Deliver structured, time-limited, and goal-oriented support in line with CPS national guidelines, focused on improving daily functioning and achieving recovery goals. Collaborate with participants to co-design and implement individual recovery plans based on their strengths, needs, and aspirations. Conduct assessments, monitor progress, and adapt supports as needed. Co‑facilitate group programs that promote recovery, social connection, skill‑building, and personal development. Provide capacity‑building support across key life domains including housing, employment, education, physical health, and social engagement. Connect participants with mainstream and community services to foster long‑term independence. The difference between the two roles is a Peer Worker is required to use their lived experience of a mental health issue and personal recovery openly, appropriately and effectively to build professional relationships with the people they support that also experience a mental health issue. Peer Workers will also use their lived experience to inform and contribute to staff learning, service understanding, and delivering person‑led, strengths‑focused, recovery‑based language, documentation, training and actions. As a Peer Worker, you will also use your lived experience to work as an advocate on an individual basis and systemically (as required). It is not a requirement for Mental Health Workers to use their lived experience of a mental health issue in their everyday work. Successful candidates must maintain a Class C driver’s licence and provide proof of comprehensive insurance when required. You may be directed to use your private motor vehicle when an organisational pool motor vehicle is unavailable. You will receive the Travelling Transport and Fares Allowance when using your private vehicle for work‑related purposes. Who We’re Looking For We’re seeking individuals who bring empathy, insight, and a strong belief in recovery. You’ll need to : Hold a Certificate IV or above in a relevant field OR a minimum of 2‑years full‑time experience working in the human services field (as recognised by Flourish Australia). Have a personal lived experience of a mental health issue and recovery (Peer Worker only). A strong commitment to recovery‑based practice in the workplace. Understand the challenges faced by people with a lived experience of a mental health issue. Demonstrate alignment to Flourish Australia’s values. Maintain a current Australian Driver’s Licence (and willingness to travel locally for community‑based support). Feel comfortable facilitating or co‑facilitating peer learning, social inclusion, or psychoeducational group sessions. Build respectful, empowering relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries. Be able to work independently, whilst contributing to a collaborative team environment. Effectively use and understand Microsoft Office and knowledge of data information management systems for the purpose of notes, scheduling, and reporting.
