Education Assistant – Special Needs Department of Education, Western Australia We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs for permanent and fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. With an Index of Community Socio‑Educational Advantage (ICSEA) of 994, the school has almost 52% of students from a language background other than English and represents over 60 different nationalities. The environment is highly positive, with a strong focus on student wellbeing and social‑emotional learning. Our inclusive programs, including an Intensive English Centre, support students’ linguistic and cultural development. The school offers specialist programmes in Soccer and Environment & Life Sciences and supports a broad range of VET and ATAR pathways. Role Special Needs Education Assistants (EAs) play an essential role in supporting the inclusion, engagement, and wellbeing of students with disability, learning difficulties, and complex needs. Working under limited guidance, EAs collaborate closely with teachers, the Program Coordinator for Inclusive Learning, and Student Services to implement documented plans, tier‑2 and tier‑3 targeted interventions, and evidence‑based programs that maximise student independence and achievement. They contribute to the creation of safe, positive, and inclusive learning environments that align with the school’s values and behaviour support frameworks. Successful applicants will ideally demonstrate a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and comorbid mental‑health diagnoses, including Pathological Demand Avoidance. Experience applying trauma‑informed and positive behaviour support strategies and assisting students to develop self‑regulation, communication, and social skills is highly desirable. Adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage complex behaviours with empathy, consistency, and professionalism are essential. Experience delivering small‑group and individualised learning programmes such as MacqLit, Direct Instruction, social‑skills groups, and other literacy and numeracy interventions is highly desirable. Enthusiasm for ongoing professional learning and contribution to collaborative team processes across the Learning Area EA model is also sought.
