Co-Responder, Youth Justice and Victim Support Youth Justice and Victim Support – Kirwan QLD The role of Co-Responder officer is to provide diversionary support to young offenders subject to youth justice intervention, or those at risk of entering the youth justice system, with the aim of preventing offending and reducing re‑offending. The Co-Responder officer will work collaboratively as part of the Co-Responder Team comprising of the Department of Youth Justice and the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The Co-Responder officer will provide support and coordinate service delivery to ensure the required actions and referrals for young people at risk are undertaken in a timely and efficient manner. This position will require working in a QPS environment including watchhouse and station, with dedicated QPS officers in unmarked police cars and in the office, to connect with young people and families, patrol hotspots and link in internal and external stakeholders. Mandatory requirements: Hours of work – Employees will be required to undertake 24/7 continuous shift work in accordance with the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award – State 2015. Roster patterns will include day, afternoon and night shifts including weekends. As a casual employee, you will be asked to fill shifts on an ad‑hoc basis and only when required. Driver's licence – It is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold an unrestricted “C” Class driver’s licence. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day‑to‑day work. This role is designated as Regulated employment as the position provides support services to children and young people and therefore will require a valid Blue Card to be linked with the organisation prior to starting. Additional pre‑employment screening for this role includes serious disciplinary history disclosure, reference and qualifications check and eligibility to work in Australia. As Co-Responder, you will specifically: Deliver support services (both during and after hours), in collaboration with the QPS, by effectively responding to, engaging with, and assessing the risks and needs of children and young people that come to the attention of police, to minimise or prevent the likelihood of involvement or further entrenchment in the youth justice system. Proactively and effectively engage with children and young people to deliver support services, including referring young people to programmes and agencies; linking young people in with their families and support persons; and connecting with Youth Justice counterparts to inform case‑management activities. Engage with and establish partnerships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers, including the QPS, in several local areas, to achieve quality case‑work outcomes. Undertake a range of record and information‑management tasks including maintenance of case records, preparation of reports, performance reporting and data entry to inform case‑work and accountability. Develop strong links to Youth Justice Service Centre counterparts and share information to inform improved court and case‑management activities in both community and custodial settings. Actively participate in training and professional development activities to develop, maintain and enhance knowledge and competencies to ensure that service delivery is based on contemporary, evidence‑based, best‑practice principles and is consistent with current practice trends and objectives. Actively participate in and contribute to the good governance and objectives of the region and department. Contribute to an organisational culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from other cultures including people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and be responsive to cultural protocols to ensure they are embedded in service delivery. Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programmes and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
