Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities - Cairns West State School As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of grounds and facilities to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate. You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions; and have independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non‑routine in nature. As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will not be required to perform any task or repairs that would normally require the services of a qualified tradesperson. The position reports directly to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate. This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges. About The Role Cairns West State School is seeking a dedicated and proactive Schools Officer (Grounds and Facilities) to join our team. This role is essential in maintaining the school's facilities and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Include Preparing and maintaining school facilities, including setting up classrooms and halls for activities and events. Performing general groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, watering, planting, weeding, and maintaining sports fields and gardens. Assisting with minor cleaning and waste collection duties, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards. Conducting basic maintenance and repairs to school furniture, equipment, and facilities. Supporting school events, managing supplies, and maintaining accurate records of school assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, practical maintenance skills, and a commitment to creating a safe and well‑maintained school environment. Interested?
