Senior/Mid Software Engineer Java Upgrade - fixed term contract (12 months) Base pay range: A$138,000.00/yr - A$158,000.00/yr Squiz’s product team is building a cloud‑based Digital Experience Platform (DXP) with key capabilities in Content Management, Optimisation tooling, AI Conversation and Platform services. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join this team on a fixed‑term basis, with a primary focus on driving a large‑scale Java version upgrade for our Funnelback product. Location‑flexible on the east coast of Australia, the role is hybrid, allowing you to work where and when works best for you. Key Responsibilities Work within a 3–5 engineer team to develop and enhance robust application code. Collaborate on User Stories, Acceptance Criteria and estimates. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and senior engineers. Write and maintain software documentation. Assist Team Leads and Engineering Managers in creating and delivering technical roadmaps. Lead best practices in code quality, architecture and security across our Java, AWS and GitLab CI/CD stack. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of hands‑on experience building and maintaining large‑scale software products. Proficiency in full‑stack development with expertise in Java and AWS. Hands‑on experience with GitLab, Docker containers or similar. Strong understanding of testing principles and proven experience implementing testing strategies. Experience with Agile or other iterative development methodologies (Scrum or Kanban). Strong understanding of secure coding practices, particularly OWASP community standards. Demonstrated experience working independently on large‑scale modernisation projects. Nice to Have Knowledge or experience with Go, Puppet, Selenium/Playwright test suites. Solid understanding of Information Retrieval (IR) concepts, including indexing and query processing. Experience migrating enterprise applications across major Java versions (e.g., Java 8 to 17+). Previous experience with Search platforms or integrating/exposing DXP Search services.
