Position: Gardener - Site & Grounds Maintenance The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. The presentation of our railway grounds and gardens is crucial for creating a welcoming and visually appealing environment for our thousands of visitors and dedicated volunteers. The Opportunity We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Gardeners to volunteer their time to maintain and enhance the beauty of our railway grounds. This is a hands‑on outdoor role where your gardening skills will directly contribute to a positive visitor experience and the overall aesthetic appeal of the Don River Railway site. If you enjoy working with plants, take pride in outdoor spaces, and are keen to support a community‑focused heritage attraction, this is a highly valued opportunity. Key Responsibilities & Duties Perform general gardening duties, including planting, weeding, pruning, watering, and mulching. Maintain garden beds, lawns, and landscaped areas around the railway precinct. Assist with minor landscaping projects or improvements. Identify and report any issues related to grounds maintenance or plant health. Utilise gardening tools and equipment safely and effectively. Collaborate with other site maintenance volunteers and staff. Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures and site guidelines, including proper use of PPE. Contribute to a positive and welcoming outdoor environment for all visitors and volunteers.
