Position Grounds & Maintenance Volunteer - Site Upkeep About the Don River Railway The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Maintaining the overall presentation, cleanliness, and functionality of our extensive railway grounds and facilities is crucial for the comfort and safety of our thousands of visitors and dedicated volunteers. The Opportunity We are seeking enthusiastic and practical Grounds & Maintenance Volunteers to join our team. This is a versatile, hands‑on outdoor role where your general maintenance and upkeep skills will be invaluable across various aspects of the Don River Railway site. You will assist with tasks related to grounds care, minor repairs, and general site presentation, contributing directly to a positive visitor experience and a safe environment. If you enjoy practical work, being outdoors, and making a tangible difference, this is a highly rewarding opportunity. Key Responsibilities & Duties Perform general grounds maintenance, including litter collection, tidying public areas, and basic vegetation control. Assist with minor repairs to fences, signage, seating, and other site amenities. Support the Gardener and Handyperson with various tasks as directed. Help with the movement and organisation of materials and equipment around the site. Identify and report any maintenance issues or hazards. Utilise general tools and equipment safely and effectively. Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures and site guidelines, including proper use of PPE. Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
