The (SCMB) is seeking Casual academics for Semester 1, 2026. Casual academics provide a rich and important contribution to the University’s academic, teaching, research, artistic, outreach and clinical endeavours through the provision of a range of academically focused services and activities. In SCMB, Casual academics may be engaged to fulfil a wide range of duties, including (but not limited to) tutoring; marking; demonstrating; teaching; student outreach and engagement; moderating/facilitating and/or student advising; across the disciplines of chemistry and the molecular biosciences. Casual academics are remunerated according to the category of their duties, as detailed in UQ’s Enterprise Agreement and reiterated in this job profile.Hours will vary according to the class timetable. Classes typically run 9:50am - 12:50pm and 1:50 - 4:50pm on some or all of the weeks from 23 February to 31 May 2026. A commitment is required for each week a course’s classes are held, although exceptions will be considered where explained in advance. Training is provided, although discipline knowledge is a selection criterion. The current pay rate is $55.36 per hour ($65.48 for PhD-qualified). This rate will increase by 2% from the first full pay period after 31 January 2026. for a list of coursesin which we have positions available, with day, time and weeks, and a short description. More details about each course can be found at You must possess at least an undergraduate degree majoring in the discipline in which you seek to deliver content. You will either have relatively recent experience with the course material or a demonstrated capacity to become familiar with the material in a short time. The selection process involves assessment of your application and an interview that includes a technical skills analysis. Postdoctoral fellows and research assistants who already have an appointment at UQ will normally incorporate casual academic work into their duties by arrangement with their supervisor and not be paid additional casual rates, depending on individual circumstances such as employment fraction. These are casual appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual rate will vary as per the work completed.
