It is expected that the Research Assistant will work with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop.The Research Assistant will work within a collaborative project addressing the atomic origin of imperfections within Josephson junctions and the ramifications for quantum computing. This work is part of a multi-institution project involving RMIT, Rigetti Computing, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of Virginia, University of Connecticut. They will be required to perform computational and theoretical analysis using a range of techniques, as well as collaborating with the other members of the wider project team.To be successful in this position, you will have:* PhD qualification in the relevant discipline area, such as computational/theoretical physics or chemistry, or applied mathematics.* Demonstrated evidence of computational modelling experience, including code development and data analysis.* Ideally experience using one or more of the following: + Molecular dynamics packages such as LAMMPS + Empirical force field techniques such as ReaxFF, MACE etc. + Phase-field modelling techniques* Evidence of research output including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.* Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.* Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.* Demonstrated high level of communication skills.**Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.****About the College**The STEM College holds a leading position and expertise in the science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health (STEM) fields.
