Data Scientist Commonwealth Bank of Australia - Sydney, Australia Do work that matters: As a Data Scientist within the Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) AI Solutions team, you will assist in the development, monitoring, implementation and management of models supporting our journey of transforming the practice of banking for Institutional Clients. From applying Generative AI to better support knowledge and decision management functions, to activating agent‑oriented AI design patterns to automate and drive results, you will be familiar with the latest and most exciting patterns in AI and Data Science development. Your AI and Data Science perspective will be coupled by your experience in the financial services or financial technology domains. You will be at the forefront of the application of Artificial Intelligence to drive decisions, optimise outcomes and improve financial performance, supporting Australia's large corporations and institutions in Australia's leading economic growth story. We are seeking people who are: Passionate about building market‑leading commercial applications that utilize state‑of‑the‑art generative AI techniques to improve work productivity and provide the best customer service Excited about tackling new, challenging business problems in AI. Adept at using a combination of commercial and technical AI models to find unique solutions that add strategic value to the business. Collaborative in nature, working with product teams, curious enough to solve real‑world problems, and courageous in positively influencing senior stakeholders using cutting‑edge AI solutions. Keen to learn how to deploy AI models into production and contribute to scalable AI systems. Constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex data science problems using generative AI methods. Tech skills: Experience applying generative AI concepts or building prototype applications. Expertise in AI including prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), design, safety guardrails, and frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, and LlamaIndex. Proficiency in using large language models (LLMs) for various business applications. Applied experience in multi‑agentic generative AI frameworks such as Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, LangGraph, or OpenAI Responses API (or equivalent frameworks). Experience or strong interest in developing and deploying generative AI or AI models on cloud infrastructure such as AWS. Practical experience in institutional banking products (lending, transaction banking) or financial markets products and relationship‑driven business models preferred. Strong communication skills; you will be engaging directly with senior stakeholders and developing use cases together with them. Tertiary qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
