Each year we support approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 operations and 600 births. We provide a 24‑hour Emergency Department (ED) with 15 ED spaces supported by an Intensive Care Unit and is also equipped with tele‑health cameras to connect the team in Griffith with specialists across the NSW Critical Care Advisory Service. The hospital provides a range of acute specialist services (resident and visiting) including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal Dialysis and Rheumatology. Hospital Redevelopment The $250 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment is well under way, with the new hospital opening its doors in June 2025. It delivers Griffith and the surrounding communities with state‑of‑the‑art health facilities and enhanced health services closer to home. All major health services at the Griffith Base Hospital will be housed under one roof, in the purpose‑built three‑storey Clinical Services Building designed to support contemporary models of care. Other works as part of the redevelopment include the Non Clinical Services Building, demolition of old hospital buildings, landscaping and car parking. The Redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2025. About Medical Careers at Griffith – the Rural Training Pathway At Griffith Base Hospital we have a range of interesting and rewarding medical career pathways. Career Medical Officer (CMO) Pathway Available to doctors awaiting a training position with a GP College training pathway or doctors intending to work as CMOs. First year comprises Emergency Medicine, with essential training requirements including the Emergency Medicine Certificate (ACEM), DETECT, ALS1 and Emergency Management of Severe Trauma. What you’ll be doing Provide first‑line medical care to patients presenting to the Hospital, including assessment, investigation, treatment and referral for ongoing non‑inpatient care or, on consultation with consultant specialists, admission/transfer for inpatient care and discharge of patients. Selection Criteria Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category with at least three (3) years experience in a Public Health setting. General Registration preferred. Advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team. Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education. Need more information?
