Base pay range A$156,800.00/yr - A$156,800.00/yr The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a senior technical specialist responsible for designing, implementing and operating core infrastructure platforms, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure and modern cloud services. The role ensures that infrastructure services are secure, reliable, scalable and cost-effective, supporting a hybrid environment across Azure, Microsoft 365 and on‑premises systems. Working closely with the Infrastructure & Security Manager, this role drives the modernisation of infrastructure, automation and standardisation, while providing advanced support for complex incidents, issues and changes. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities Design, implement and maintain Azure infrastructure services (IaaS, PaaS, storage, networking, backup and recovery) in line with best practice, security and performance requirements, with an emphasis on scalable patterns that can be reused for new sites and business acquisitions. Govern and optimise the Azure environment, including subscriptions, management groups, policies, tagging, cost management, RBAC and resource standardisation. Administer and enhance Microsoft 365 services (e.g. Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams) and implement modern endpoint management and compliance using Intune and Entra ID (Azure AD). Manage and support remaining on‑premises infrastructure (servers, storage, virtualisation, backup and DR solutions) within a hybrid cloud strategy, ensuring stability, lifecycle management and smooth onboarding or consolidation of infrastructure from business acquisitions. Support and enhance network infrastructure (WAN, LAN, Wi‑Fi, VPNs, firewalls, routing, DHCP, DNS) and assist with VoIP/telephony platforms as required. Develop and maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code (e.g. PowerShell, ARM/Bicep, Terraform or equivalent) to deliver consistent, repeatable deployments and configuration. Design, implement and maintain infrastructure monitoring, alerting and logging across cloud and on‑prem environments, using metrics to drive performance, availability and capacity improvements. Provide Tier 3/4 escalation support for complex incidents and helpdesk problems, collaborating with the service desk, Systems Administrators and external partners, and participate in after‑hours/on‑call support where required. Create and maintain high‑quality documentation, runbooks, standards and design artefacts for infrastructure services and changes. Collaborate with security, applications and project teams to ensure solutions are “secure by design” and support business change, including the IT streams of business acquisitions (discovery, migration and cutover activities), while mentoring and providing technical guidance to Systems Administrators and other IT staff. Experience, Knowledge and Skills To be successful you will need: 7+ years’ experience in infrastructure engineering roles, including significant hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 in a hybrid environment. Strong experience designing, implementing and supporting Azure services (IaaS, PaaS, networking, governance, security and monitoring). Deep knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), hybrid identity, conditional access and related security and compliance capabilities. Solid understanding of networking (WAN, LAN, Wi‑Fi, firewalls, VPNs/SASE/ZTA, routing, VoIP DHCP, DNS) and how these integrate with cloud environments. Strong PowerShell scripting skills and experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and AI Automations. Experience with virtualisation platforms, storage systems and backup/DR solutions, including integration with Azure. Familiarity with information security standards and best practices, and experience working closely with security functions or SOC & MSSP providers. Experience with monitoring and logging platforms, including designing meaningful metrics, alerts and dashboards. Experience in FMCG, logistics, distribution or similar operational environments is advantageous. Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g. AZ‑104, AZ‑305, MS‑102 or successors) are highly regarded. Strong technical depth in Azure, Microsoft 365 and hybrid infrastructure, with a willingness to be hands‑on. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex multi‑domain issues. Strong planning and organisational skills, able to prioritise work, manage competing demands and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Clear and concise communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and produce high‑quality documentation. Collaborative and customer‑focused approach, building good working relationships with colleagues, vendors and business stakeholders. Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, modernisation and simplification of infrastructure and processes.
