Darwin, Österreich FORWAARD Aboriginal Corporation Vollzeit

FORWAARD Aboriginal Corporation – Darwin NT FORWAARD Aboriginal Corporation is seeking an Intake & Assessment Officer to join our passionate and dedicated team. FORWAARD supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in reconnecting with their families and community following drug and/or alcohol-related difficulties through our holistic, culturally safe, and person‑ and community‑centered programs and support. In this frontline role, you will be a vital link between those seeking AOD support and the services that can be life‑changing. You will assess incoming client needs, coordinate treatment pathways that foster hope and long‑term recovery, and play a key role in improving health outcomes while supporting clients to build stronger, safer, more independent lives. This necessitates strong oral and written communication skills and familiarity with culturally safe and appropriate interaction protocols. Assessment & Screening: conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to identify client needs, including screening for mental health issues, family needs, or cultural considerations. Referrals & Care Coordination: maintain and oversee the client waitlist, keep clients engaged while awaiting treatment, and advocate for clients to overcome barriers. Documentation & Reporting: maintain accurate and up‑to‑date client records, including assessment results and progress notes, often using client management systems; provide ongoing consultation and reporting to the Treatment Manager and support program reporting, evaluation, and quality improvement. Risk Assessment: perform risk assessments (e.g., suicide, violence, etc.) and develop action plans to mitigate these risks. Collaboration: work with internal multi‑disciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including community workers, general practitioners, and other agencies; work closely with the Treatment Manager to ensure residential bed space is maximised at all times. SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of cultural and cross‑cultural issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or equivalent qualifications. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position and demonstrated understanding of screening, assessment, and community‑based treatment for substance use and mental health issues. Proven ability to work collaboratively with clients, families, colleagues, and other service providers. Excellent written and oral communication ability; proficiency in IT skills, Microsoft Suite, and client management systems. ESSENTIAL EXPECTATIONS National Police Clearance. OCHRE Card. NT Drivers Licence. First Aid, or ability to obtain. Maintain a drug‑free lifestyle and consent to random drug and alcohol testing.
