About CDSCC Located at Tidbinbilla, just outside Australia's capital city, the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) is one of three Deep Space Network stations around the world. Together, the three stations provide around-the-clock contact with more than 30 spacecraft, including missions to study Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, comets, the Moon and the Sun. CDSCC supports ground-based spacecraft telecommunications as part of the international National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA) Deep Space Network (DSN), under contractual arrangements between the NASA and Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). For more information on CDSCC, please visit: The opportunity As a member of CDSCC’s Finance & Administration Team, you will support the delivery of essential business and administrative services that enable the Complex to operate efficiently. Working under routine direction, the Purchasing & Procurement Officer coordinates procurement activities, manages supplier relationships, and ensures the timely acquisition of goods and materials that support CDSCC’s mission‑critical operations. Your duties will include: Respond courteously and efficiently to requests for your services, keep clients informed about progress and redirect requests to appropriate staff when required. Coordinate the local, interstate, and overseas purchase of items for the CDSCC. Process purchase requisitions in accordance with established procedures in line with CSIRO’s procurement policies utilising both Maximo and SAP. Prepare and assist in the development of requests for quote and tender in collaboration with CSIRO Strategic Procurement and ensuing processes. Liaise with team leaders and managers to ascertain purchasing requirements and be familiar with program area budgets. Review quotes to determine value for money. Track and manage the satisfactory completion of all purchase orders with suppliers and resolve discrepancies. Review suitability of stock items and determine appropriate supply chain solutions. Liaise with CSIRO finance to reconcile Maximo and SAP databases. Look for opportunities to generate improved solutions in work situations, trying creative ways to deal with routine problems and opportunities, and exercising initiative when applying established procedures. Role particulars Location: CDSCC, Tidbinbilla. ACT Salary: AU$75k – AU$92k per annum (pro rata for part‑time), plus 15.4% superannuation (+ $133 per week tracking station allowance) Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite, full‑time. Options for part‑time, job‑share and flexible work arrangements can be discussed based on needs of role and individual circumstances. Reference: As the successful candidate, you will bring: Relevant qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in Purchasing and/or Procurement. Demonstrated experience as a Purchasing Officer, interpreting and applying purchasing policies, principles, processes, and procedures. Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands, establish priorities, organise tasks, meet deadlines and elevate issues when required. Demonstrated history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative working environment. Sound written, interpersonal and oral communication skills including the ability to consult with a range of people and recognise and respect confidential and sensitive matters.
