WA Country Health - South West – Bunbury WA What you'll be doing Meet and greet patients and visitors in a warm, friendly manner. Provide support and companionship to patients who have cognitive impairment, including people with dementia (loss of memory, attention, insight), delirium (temporary confused thinking) or brain injury. Occupy patient by playing music, games, talk, read books or activities that the person enjoys. Assist with distraction to keep a patient calm and comfortable. About you Well presented with a friendly and enthusiastic manner. Calm, patient and positive attitude to working with people. Ability to approach patients and visitors in a confident and caring way. Enjoys the company of elderly people. Able to be adaptable and comfortable with people who have memory loss. Comfortable in a busy hospital ward environment. Be sensitive and tactful at all times. Reliable, punctual, and able to commit time to volunteer on a regular basis. Understanding of personal and professional boundaries. Volunteers must maintain client/patient confidentiality at all times. Demonstrate effective hand-hygiene practice throughout the hospital. Demonstrate WA Country Health values at all times Community, Compassion, Quality, Integrity, Equity and Curiosity. Respect diversity and differing opinions. Category Health Commitment Regular - more than 6 months Type Of Work Companionship & Social Support Time Required Minimum of 3 hours per week, days and times as suits ward and volunteer.
