Principal Software Engineer

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer – Payments with deep expertise in payments, wallets, and financial systems to lead the next generation of BTC Markets’ architecture – Australia’s trusted digital asset exchange, serving over 325,000 customers and processing more than $23 billion in trades. In this hands‑on, high‑impact role, you will serve as the senior technical authority for payments, wallets, and ledger systems. You will define and drive the architectural vision for resilient, event‑driven financial services across fiat and digital assets, ensuring our platforms meet the highest standards of compliance, auditability, and financial‑grade reliability. You will architect core payment and settlement flows, guide the development of durable and secure real‑time transaction systems, and mentor senior engineers across teams. Working closely with product, compliance, and security, you will set engineering standards, embed a security‑first mindset, and influence the long‑term evolution of BTC Markets’ technology platform. What You’ll Do Architect and evolve BTC Markets’ wallet and payment systems across fiat and digital assets. Design and build event‑driven, fault‑tolerant transaction systems with strong guarantees for security, resilience, and data integrity. Drive a security‑by‑design culture across architecture, infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines. Collaborate with product, compliance, and security teams to ensure readiness for ISO 27001, SOC 2, and ASIC standards. Mentor senior engineers and lead by example in system design, resilience, and data integrity. Who You Are 10+ years of experience in software engineering , with a focus on payments or financial systems . Deep knowledge of .NET, cloud infrastructure, and distributed, event‑driven architectures. Experience designing financial ledgers, wallet systems, or payment orchestration layers . Strong grounding in security, cryptography and key management . Comfortable operating in regulated, high‑trust financial environments . A collaborator who can bridge engineering, compliance and product with clear technical leadership. Strongly Preferred Direct experience in payments, banking, trading platforms or financial systems. Background working in regulated environments with strict audit and compliance requirements. Familiarity with blockchain, digital assets or DLT technologies. Why Join Us?
