Team Lead - Software Engineering Research Discovery & Intelligence Platform About us We are an early‑stage Australian tech venture developing a number of emerging and socially responsible businesses in Australia and abroad. We are a small but strong and experienced team, combining diverse backgrounds and global expertise in software and hardware, AI, and systems integration across industries. Fully backed by private venture capital, we are finalizing our corporate structure while preparing for an ambitious expansion into several relevant business areas. One of our missions is to help advance human progress by making venture financing for scientific communities more accessible and sustainable. We are building an assistive research discovery & intelligence platform powered by modern AI. It provides data‑driven insights to help innovation hubs and capital providers identify and support emerging researchers at an early stage. In doing so, it serves two goals: helping investors make more targeted decisions, and providing researchers with vital seed funding and resources to bring their ideas to life. The platform will roll out in stages, starting with Australia and then expanding globally. We are a socially responsible team, and want not only to generate revenue streams, but also make a meaningful impact on local communities, industries, and progress across Australia and globally. About our role We are looking for an experienced and motivated leader in software engineering, with a strong track record of building data‑heavy applications and processing pipelines. You will be the bridge between our strategic leadership and technology teams, helping us bring the technology to life. In this role, you will: Steer methodology development to ensure a viable and scalable product, as an early member of our expert leadership team. Build and grow the backend and frontend engineering team from the ground up, building not just the product, but how we work as a team. Oversee design and implementation of the data processing and machine learning pipelines on a daily basis. Communicate our technologies clearly to stakeholders and external investors, aligning our technical roadmap with business needs. Important This is a technical position that combines hands‑on engineering with stakeholder communication. You will be expected to balance your time between both. About you We are looking for someone who is intellectually and technically curious, strategically minded, and thrives in a collaborative and agile startup environment. 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 3 years in a technical leadership role, preferably in a startup setting. Strong ability to navigate uncertainty and communicate creative solutions to complex problems. A track record of leading engineering teams and building scalable cloud‑native and hybrid software products on any major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.). Practical understanding of ML operations and production data pipelines, especially in the context of NLP technologies. Full‑stack engineering experience with modern frameworks and mainstream languages, including Python, Go, C#, C++, or Rust. A self‑starter attitude with strong analytical, creative, and planning skills. The ability to work autonomously as part of a small but highly technical and agile team. Additional advantages Experience with distributed data collection and large‑scale information retrieval systems, including Elasticsearch, Scrapy, etc. Experience with graph and vector databases, knowledge graphs, and semantic search technologies, including Neo4j, Weaviate, etc. Knowledge of scientific scoring systems, performance metrics, and evaluation frameworks. Experience with running and scaling distributed engineering teams. Fluency in one or more foreign languages.
