ETS Geotechnical, part of PTG Group, provides comprehensive geotechnical drilling, construction materials testing, and consulting services to clients across Far North Queensland, Papua New Guinea, and the Torres Strait. With operations based in Cairns and additional laboratories across the region, we support government, mining, and private sector projects of all sizes. Our team has extensive experience delivering field investigations in both urban and remote environments, with in‑house drilling capability that allows us to efficiently manage and prioritise project programs. We specialise in Department of Transport and Main Roads projects, local government works, and site laboratories, delivering reliable, cost‑effective outcomes on time and within budget. As part of PTG Group, you’ll join a wider network of engineering, drilling, and materials testing professionals dedicated to shaping stronger, safer communities across Australia and the Pacific. About the Position We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled senior geotechnical engineer with 7+ years of experience to join an expanding and dynamic team in our Cairns office as the Branch Leader. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of structural design and analysis within the residential space, as well as proven project and people management skills. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop staff, including recruitment, training, and performance management. Ensure project timelines are met and deliverables are of high quality through appropriate resource allocation. Drive business development by tracking opportunities, maintaining industry networks, and supporting client relationships. Prepare and manage branch budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure targets are met. Maintain compliance across administration, reporting, and insurance requirements. Communicate and coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Supervise and conduct a wide range of fieldwork including for site investigations and slope stability assessments. Undertake factual and interpretive geotechnical reporting. Undertake stability assessments with software including SlopeW and/or Geostudio. Conduct and communicate construction verification on foundations and other earthworks assessments. About You Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering. 7+ years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering. Proficient in geotechnical logging, interpretive reporting and managing site investigations. Excellent knowledge of testing soils to relevant Australian and State or Territory Standards. Member of Engineers Australia. RPEQ or CPEng Qualification. Knowledge of quality, safety and environmental compliance requirements and a commitment to keeping safety at the core of everything you do. Personable with strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Proven track record of managing client relationships. Proven track record of managing staff. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to travel to project sites as needed. Current Automatic Class C Drivers License. Why Join Us?
