Patent Attorney, Organic Chemistry / Pharmaceuticals You will be part of our Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys (PTA) Group and work with attorneys and lawyers across all offices. You will collaborate with Partners and the wider team, gaining exposure to the most complex IP matters in the market. Our structure allows you to work across multiple Partners within your group and specialise in areas of interest while building a strong foundation in your technical expertise. As a Patent Attorney, you will provide patent-related services to local innovators and international clients in competitive commercial environments, including drafting and prosecuting applications in Australia and globally, IP portfolio management, high‑stakes patent oppositions and litigation, freedom‑to‑operate searches and advice, validity and infringement opinions, developing and implementing IP strategies in a global context, and assisting Allens' IP practice with broad legal and commercial services, especially in litigation matters requiring specialist input. This is a permanent, full‑time opportunity. We have a hybrid working structure: typically 60% in office, 40% from home. Flexible arrangements can be discussed. Responsibilities Drafting and prosecuting patents in Australia and internationally. Managing IP portfolios. Handling high‑stakes patent oppositions and litigation. Conducting freedom‑to‑operate searches and providing advice. Providing validity and infringement opinions. Developing and implementing IP strategies in a global context. Assisting Allens' IP practice with broad legal and commercial services, especially in litigation matters that require specialist input. Qualifications Experience in a law firm or patent attorney firm, or a combination of private practice and in‑house roles. Practised as a Patent Attorney with a reputable firm or in‑house. PhD or advanced degree in organic chemistry. Post‑graduate qualifications and research or industry experience in your chosen field. Experience drafting or prosecuting patents in the chemical and pharmaceutical field. Experience in patent oppositions is advantageous but not essential. Ability to effectively manage larger matters is advantageous. A desire to learn and grow.
