Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Advocacy, the Policy Officer will be responsible for contributing to the development and analysis of nursing, health and aged care system policies, position papers, projects and submissions aligned with the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) strategic intent.The role will also contribute to developing policies to address emerging issues and trends relevant to nursing and the health system.Team members are expected to draw upon subject matter experts to develop relevant policy responses to these issues.The role will be responsible for undertaking research, identifying and analysing emerging policy trends and issues and providing authoritative advice to senior management through the Policy Manager.Desired Skills and Experience

However,

an appropriate tertiary qualification is desirable.Tertiary qualifications in nursing and/or other health-related fields and social or political sciences are essential. Tertiary qualifications in nursing are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.Experience in formulating and analysing health and/or clinical policy for either government, a health service provider or an organisation associated with health or nursing.Technical expertiseUnderstanding

in providing sound evidence-based policy advice in a health-related environment.Demonstrated high-level computer skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software.Knowledge and SkillsPolicy Skills

– Understanding of policy development, research and review, formulation, and implementation based on good organisational knowledge and understanding of current health issues, resulting in an ability to address strategic, environmental and nursing issues effectively.Written Communication

– Ability to prepare draft project briefs, draft reports, draft discussion papers, policy options, draft recommendations on issues, and provide strong support for a preferred position or action for the Policy and Advocacy Manager.Verbal Communication

– Ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholdersProblem-solving

– Ability to develop and evaluate draft solutions considering likely business impacts, developing contingency plans

and ensuring stakeholders are actively engaged in the problem-solving process.Conceptual & Analytical Thinking
