Civil Aviation Safety Authority – Perth WA The Aerodromes Inspector (ASR1) role is an essential part of CASA's regulatory oversight. The role involves conducting surveillance of more than 330 airports and aerodromes nationally, providing regulatory services and guidance to the sector, and supporting CASA's strategic operational priorities and the National Oversight Plan (NOP). As a member of CASA's Aviation Technical Workforce (ATW), inspectors work under guidance from a Manager and National Manager, demonstrating regulatory judgement, initiative, and technical expertise in aerodrome and airspace safety. The position requires regular travel and occasional additional hours, including weekends or outside the normal work span, which will be compensated in accordance with CASA's enterprise agreement. Responsibilities Exercise decision making, including delegation, on routine aerodrome operations enquiries, approvals, and compliance in line with legislation, CASA's Corporate Plan, policies, practices and standards, and in accordance with CASA's Regulatory Philosophy and assigned delegations. Collaborate with colleagues, providing timely and constructive input, sharing knowledge, and managing personal performance in line with CASA's values. Participate in work programmes that deliver CASA's strategies and priorities, such as issuing approvals, operational change approvals, compliance assurance and reporting, regulatory improvement, and resolution of safety issues. Work professionally with regulated entities, government departments, the aviation sector and the public, providing regulatory services and technical guidance. Perform regulatory services or surveillance tasks, identifying non-compliance or offences, and present findings to stakeholders through high-quality reports with recommendations, risks and systemic issues. Assess and analyse industry information, engage stakeholders, monitor external influences, and investigate scenarios to develop compliance strategies and mitigate emerging or actual risks. Contribute to a positive health and safety culture at CASA, including psychosocial wellbeing. Engage in and respond to change positively. Other duties as required. Ideal Candidate Knowledge and skill in aerodrome design and operations. A relevant technical, tertiary or professional qualification in an aviation or safety related discipline (e.g., electrical engineering, civil engineering, surveying). Ability to exercise initiative, analysis, problem solving, judgment, and decision-making, applying technical knowledge where standards may not fully apply. Negotiation, facilitation, influencing and communication skills (written and verbal) to manage differing views at senior level. Active stakeholder management, including conflict resolution under time constraints. Seek diverse perspectives to identify improvements. Understanding of civil aviation legislation and national / international standards. Extensive relevant experience within aviation, a national aviation authority or related safety industry. Strong understanding of Australia's Civil Aviation legislation and international standards. Ability to manage, research and resolve ambiguous, challenging or complex issues. Coordination and assimilation of technical knowledge from a diverse team, applying project management principles. Knowledge of quality assurance and risk management principles. Eligibility Requirements 8+ years of appropriate experience in the role's discipline. Experience holding operational responsibility involving the design and / or implementation of operational processes to meet aviation legislative requirements. Understanding of Australia's Civil Aviation Act and relevant CASRs, CARs, guidance materials and other legislation. Hold or be eligible to hold an Australian Security Identification Card (ASIC). Willingness to undergo pre-employment screening, including police record check. Australian citizen able to obtain the required security clearance. Availability to perform safety-sensitive aviation activities as defined in the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Successful completion of a pre-employment alcohol and drug test under CASA's Alcohol and Other Drugs Directive.
