The role requires effective collaboration with a dynamic team and agility to transition across 3D physical‑modelling disciplines such as CNC milling, fabrication, and 3D printing. You will report directly to the 3D Prototyping Manager and be based at the design studio in Broadmeadows, operating on a hybrid schedule with four days in the office. Responsibilities Develop physical models and determine the best tools and techniques to deliver accurate execution within timing and project constraints. Integrate seamlessly with studio design teams. Deliver finished physical models to specification using all available tools, from sketches to engineering data. Set up armatures, processes, and procedures to deliver advanced prototypes quickly and accurately. Finish models using techniques such as film/foil application, hard part finishing, fitment, and various painting and finishing methods. Apply design direction tapes to support clay model development. Operate equipment safely and maintain a clean, safe workspace. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in industrial design or a related technical field. Minimum 3 years of clay‑modelling experience. Proficiency in surface development and all physical‑modelling techniques. Expertise in clay sculpting and finishing techniques. Ability to translate 2D sketches into 3D clay surfaces. Strong stakeholder collaboration skills to share design intent with engineering, suppliers, creative designers, and management. Adaptability to a dynamic environment with willingness to adjust design direction. Excellent understanding of automotive industry, design practices, and product development processes. Teamwork and flexibility in a collaborative setting. Preferred Qualifications Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Workshop and fabrication experience, with skills in relevant equipment and machinery. Knowledge of studio milling machine set‑up and operation – training available if needed.
