Art Classroom Teacher Years 7-12 (RRI 061) Department of Education Victoria – Wangaratta VIC Wangaratta is a Rural City located just two and a half hours north of Melbourne along the Hume Freeway. The town is surrounded by historic and beautiful townships and villages where students come from such as Peechelba, Springhurst, Tarrawingee, Whitfield and Whorouly, as well as from as far as Yarrawonga, Corowa and Benalla. Our School Wangaratta High School (WHS) was established in 1909 and is the only public secondary school in Wangaratta. It focuses on supporting student pathways through Academic, Arts, Technology and Performing Arts programs, with extensive modern facilities. WHS offers strong wellbeing support and a comprehensive digital technology infrastructure. In 2022, the school had an enrollment of 650 students and continues to grow. WHS aims to empower all students to grow academically, socially and emotionally, with a vision to produce independent, lifelong learners who make a positive impact on the world. WHS provides foundation programs in Years 7‑9, a Year 9 specific program, a Community Leadership Challenge, a Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program for highly able students, and a range of VCE/VET and VCAL options in Years 10‑12. Department The Department of Education and Training Victoria’s Executive Principal is Dave Armstrong, who has extensive experience across Victorian schools. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills, and experience responding to student learning needs. SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high‑impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student growth. SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback to students and parents. SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, and experience establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support learning, wellbeing and engagement. SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, and experience in reflecting on practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve teaching quality. Role The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges—Range 1 and Range 2. The primary focus is the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Teachers are expected to engage in critical reflection, inquiry and, with experience, undertake additional duties supporting the school program. Responsibilities Direct teaching of student groups and individual students. Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other program within the school. Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal. Participating in activities such as parent‑teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions. Undertaking non‑teaching supervisory duties. Who May Apply Teachers registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or with demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum area(s). Payments and Support on Offer Reimbursement of relocation expenses up to $5,000 and support to identify suitable housing. $10,000 (before‑tax) retention payments (pro‑rata for part‑time positions), awarded at the conclusion of the second, third and fourth years, for a total of up to $30,000 before‑tax. RRI Candidate Eligibility Criteria New employee to the school. Remain employed for 2 years for initial retention payment, and continue to subsequent years for third‑year and fourth‑year payments. Meet relocation requirements, including ordinary residence at least 1 hour from the school. Ordinary place of residence not classified as Remote Australia (Vic.), Outer Regional Australia (Vic.) or Inner Regional Australia (Vic.) where applicable. Qualification Requirements Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Completion of an Australian postgraduate initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority. For graduates from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, demonstration of passing the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE).
