The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and the broader department that work together to pre‑empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state. The QFD is an organisation committed to reframing its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan, contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building cultural capability. Purpose of the Role Regional operations comprises four QFR Regions focused on the management and delivery of capability for the service in the region. Delivery is across four broad themes: service delivery, community safety, professional development and business management, and partnership with other state government departments, local governments and communities to improve resilience and enhance operational capacity during times of emergency. Each region is led by a Regional Assistant Commissioner who focuses on coordination across services, connecting with stakeholders and ensuring community needs are met through local decision‑making and place‑based service delivery and operational capability. Key Responsibilities Provide high‑level confidential administration services and business support to meet the functions of regional operations, development or emergency operations capability. Set priorities, monitor workflows and manage the functions of human resource and finance administration, records and database management, medal and award nominations, official functions and/or diary management and secretariat duties, ensuring compliance with policy and procedures. Assist teams in zone and area commands, emergency management, community safety or training to support administrative functions and ensure efficient service delivery to meet regional objectives. Coordinate administrative tasks for the processing of work unit records, human resource (leave, staffing arrangements or training courses) and finance administration activities, ensuring compliance with departmental policy and procedures. Utilise databases to create, update, analyse and report on business activities, providing operating support to ensure compliance and effective maintenance of records and access to information. Liaise and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including members of the public, to support key processes, procedures and delivery of unit outcomes. Coordinate the development, maintenance, training and advice of administrative processes, procedures and use of systems to ensure compliance and the provision of quality support services to the work area. Prioritise workload effectively and perform duties responsibly in the absence of supervision using a high level of initiative to resolve issues and provide recommendations for continuous improvement. Undertake support and administrative duties during emergencies and disasters, which may involve short‑notice activation and rostering outside of business hours. Key Requirements Highly desirable: C Class driver's licence (non‑restricted). Government purchasing qualifications (level 1). Knowledge or experience in the use of human resource and finance systems and database management. Special Requirements The incumbent will be required to support the activation of the Regional Fire Control Centre (FRCC) or State Fire Control Centre (SFCC) when required; this may include being deployed to assist with functions of part of a Response Team as directed by the Assistant Commissioner and may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends and/or working extended hours.
