Aboriginal Community Support Worker (Full -Time Permanent Position) Wollondilly and Wingecarribee Area Are you ready to use your unique skills and cultural knowledge to make a profound impact and help build a more culturally safe future in the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee community? New Horizons is looking for a dedicated Aboriginal Community Support Worker to join our team within the Housing & Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Program. This role specifically provides psychosocial supports and works in partnership with people living with mental ill-health, empowering them to live and recover within the community in the way that they want to. We support our customers to build independence, identify and achieve goals, engage in activities of daily life, and encourage genuine connections within the community. What You’ll Bring to the Role Beyond a positive, authentic, and inclusive personality that you bring to work every day, we’re looking for someone who brings a deep understanding of Aboriginal cultures and communities. Your ability to connect authentically and provide culturally safe support will be key to empowering our customers. You’ll also bring Strong understanding of, and connection to, Aboriginal cultures and communities. Ability to apply culturally appropriate practices and communication. Commitment to actively contributing to and enhancing New Horizons’ culturally safe service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers. Great computer skills with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and customer relationship management systems. Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health, Peer Work, or equivalent industry experience. Valid NSW Class C driver’s licence, including large cars and vans. Current Police check (not more than 3 months old), WWCC and NDIS WC to meet New Horizons employment criteria prior to commencing with us. The Day-to-Day Collaborate with customers to develop individualised, person-centred support plans that incorporate identified wellbeing needs, strengths, and goals, with a strong focus on cultural safety and responsiveness. Provide support to customers to improve independence by assisting with skill development, transport, social activities, finances, appointments, cooking, medication and personal care. Encourage customers to participate in activities of choice such as social, leisure, sporting, educational, employment activities. Keep customer records up to date daily using online systems and electronic databases. Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships and networks with Aboriginal communities, Elders, community leaders, and stakeholders relevant to supporting Indigenous consumers. Act as a key liaison to ensure services are well-connected and responsive to community needs. Support customers to navigate the sector to access additional or culturally specific services.
