New Horizons is looking for a dedicated Full-Time Permanent Aboriginal Community Support Worker to join our team within the Housing & Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI ) Program in the Central Coast South area. About the role As Aboriginal Community Support Worker , you will collaborate with customers to develop individualised, person-centred support plans that incorporate their identified wellbeing needs, their strengths and their goals, with a strong focus on cultural safety and responsiveness. Your responsibilities Provide support to customers to improve their independence by assisting with skill development, transport, social activities, supporting with finances, attending appointments, cooking, medication and personal care. Support and encourage our customers to participate in activities of their choice, such as social, leisure, sporting, educational and employment activities. Keep customer records up to date daily using online systems and electronic databases. Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships and networks with Aboriginal communities, Elders, community leaders, and both Indigenous-identified and non-identified stakeholders relevant to supporting Indigenous consumers. This includes acting as a key liaison to ensure our services are well-connected and responsive to community needs. Support customers to navigate the sector to access any additional service they may require, particularly culturally specific services. Seek out innovative ways to enhance the recovery journey and overall customer experience with New Horizons. About you Beyond a positive, authentic, and inclusive personality that you bring to work every day, we are looking for someone who brings a deep understanding of Aboriginal cultures and communities. Your ability to connect authentically and provide culturally safe support will be key to empowering our customers. You’ll also bring Cultural Competence and Connection: A strong understanding of, and connection to, Aboriginal cultures and communities. This includes the ability to apply culturally appropriate practices and communication in your work. Building Cultural Safety: A commitment to actively contributing to and enhancing New Horizons' culturally safe service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers. This involves advocating for their needs and helping to shape an environment where they feel respected and understood. A strong set of values that guides your work, incorporating our organisational values of passion, integrity & respect. Great computer skills with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and customer relationship management systems. Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health, Peer Work, or equivalent industry experience.
