Staff Specialist – Rehabilitation L15) Department of Health Tasmania – Hobart TAS The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist – Rehabilitation vacancy (to cover an extended leave) commencing as soon as possible until 26 June 2026 . As a Rehabilitation Specialist Consultant, participate in all aspects of the medical care of rehabilitation patients/clients across a range of settings, including acute inpatient, in-reach, ambulatory and community rehabilitation services. The occupant will also be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, be actively involved in research and undertake quality improvement activities. The Role Provide consultant service to inpatients, admitting and managing patients under their care. Accept referrals and undertake consultation and patient review. Participate in outpatient clinics in all aspects of rehabilitation medicine. Regular attendance at multidisciplinary clinic and meetings. Participate in quality activity programs. Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training. Perform other duties within the capacity, qualifications and experience expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level. Teaching Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate specialist trainee teaching. Liaise with the University of Tasmania (UTAS) Department of Medicine in respect to the teaching of undergraduates and Registrars. Education and Research Maintain an active interest in research. Active participation in ongoing education meetings and activities. Qualifications & Experience Holds specialist registration; or Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway; or Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality. Pre‑Employment Checks Conviction checks: Crimes of violence Sex related offences Serious drug offences Crimes involving dishonesty Disciplinary action in previous employment check Appointment Details Fixed term full-time or part-time day work (with on-call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until 26 June 2026 (applications considered for all or part of this timeframe). Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies. Remuneration Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available. Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 – $310,389 subject to meeting criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. Allowances include motor vehicle allowance indexed each year, Continuing Professional Development Allowance, On-call allowance (percentage of Base Salary), other allowances as per current Award.
