Capital Nordic Walking Community Outreach – Canberra ACT Role Purpose This volunteer role supports Capital Nordic Walkings free community walks by creating a safe, welcoming and socially connected environment. Our Volunteer Angels help new and regular walkers feel confident and cared for, noting a range of physical abilities attend. This program is here to support a healthy, social and active Canberra, and ensure no one walks alone. Key Responsibilities Arrive 15 minutes early to greet walkers, acknowledge newcomers and assist with check-in. Support the warm‑up and briefing for new walkers. Walk with the group (front, middle or back) or alongside anyone who needs company or extra support. Be aware of any unsafe or risky walking practices (training provided). Complete a 45‑60 minute moderate walk and join the group for a short coffee/chat afterwards to check in with participants. Keep Volunteer Coordinators informed of any concerns or incidents. Time Commitment Approximately 2 hours per week, including pre‑ and post‑walk time. We are especially seeking volunteers for Thursday 10 am at Lake Burley Griffin and Tuesday 10 am at the Botanic Gardens. Skills and Requirements Warm, welcoming manner and enjoyment of meeting new people. Reliable and punctual. Comfortable walking for up to an hour at a moderate pace. Interest in supporting people of all abilities, including those with disabilities. No Nordic Walking knowledge required Training will be provided. Hi‑vis vest and name bag supplied. Impact By giving time as an Angel, you help people stay active, connected and confident, strengthening Canberra's healthy, social Nordic Walking community.
