Dental anaesthetist - day care anaesthesia VIC We are expanding our 'out of hospital' day case anaesthesia service for dentistry with casual/part-time consultant anaesthetist positions commencing in January 2026. This offers a unique opportunity to provide hospital-quality care to the community for dentistry in state-of-the-art general anaesthesia dental facilities. Key highlights of the role include: Flexible work: Full-day sessions on weekdays only (no weekends, no on-call). Excellent remuneration: $600 per hour plus 12.4% superannuation (approximately $664 per hour total). Multiple locations: Melbourne, South East, and South West regions, Geelong and Ballarat. Supportive team: work under the guidance of a senior academic anaesthetist, alongside an experienced director of nursing (ex-hospital theatre manager) and dedicated dental anaesthetic nurses and dental teams. About the role: As a Consultant Anaesthetist in our team, you will administer general anaesthesia for adult patients undergoing dental procedures in a mobile setting. The majority of procedures are lengthy (up to 6 hours) for all‑on‑fours, dental clearance, and cosmetic dentistry, but they also include extractions and general dentistry. You will maintain the highest standards of anaesthetic care, bringing hospital‑grade safety and protocols into dental clinics. This role involves close collaboration with paediatric dentists and nursing staff to deliver safe, efficient anaesthesia services that improve access to care for children. Responsibility: Due to the additional responsibilities, this position is only suitable for anaesthetists with a minimum of 5‑10 years' experience, or significant experience in "solo" anaesthesia in Australia or developing countries. About you: You are a specialist anaesthetist (FANZCA or equivalent) registered with AHPRA, with experience or interest in dental and mobile anaesthesia. You value quality, safety, and teamwork. You are looking for flexible, rewarding work without the demands of on‑call duties. You are willing to work as the sole anaesthetist at facilities and to ensure our hospital standards are met in dental practices, requiring the provision of some education and training for our dental teams in perioperative care. Confidence in anaesthesiising children (age 4+) is a bonus but not required, and supervised training may be available. Mobile anaesthesia, also termed office-based anaesthesia, is becoming the dominant setting for day surgery in an increasing number of countries, but is in its infancy in Australia.
